TikTok's Commitment to Diversity and Support for the Black Community
Recently, there have been concerns raised by our users regarding the equal opportunity for all creators to have their content seen and their experiences affirmed on TikTok. We want to assure our community that we value the diversity of our platform and take pride in providing underrepresented communities a platform to be seen and heard.
We apologize to our Black creators and community who have felt unsafe, unsupported, or suppressed. We want to make it clear that we welcome the voices of the Black community wholeheartedly. We understand that there have been instances where the Black community has felt marginalized on TikTok, and we acknowledge the technical glitch that temporarily affected the visibility of posts using hashtags such as #BlackLivesMatter and #GeorgeFloyd. However, it is important to note that these hashtags have still generated over 2 billion views, highlighting their significance and resonance within our community.
We recognize our responsibility to actively promote and protect diversity on our platform. We stand in solidarity with the Black community and are working on ways to elevate and support Black voices and causes. Our Community Guidelines exist to create a positive and inclusive environment, and we do not tolerate racism or hate speech. We are constantly improving our technology and moderation strategies to handle potentially violative content, and we encourage users to flag any content that violates our guidelines.
To foster an inclusive environment, we are taking several steps, including investing in technology and moderation strategies, establishing a creator diversity council, and developing a creator portal for better communication with our community. We are also participating in Blackout Tuesday to observe a moment of reflection and action, and throughout Black Music Month, we will be offering special programming to celebrate and highlight Black artists' contributions to music on our platform.
In support of our Black creators, we are donating 1 million towards fighting racial injustice and inequality.
We are dedicated to creating a supportive environment for the Black community and everyone on TikTok. We appreciate being held accountable and understand that building trust will take time and effort. Our goal is for TikTok to feel like home for everyone, where everyone's voice is seen and heard.
