TikTok Celebrates Black Excellence with #MakeBlackHistory Campaign

This Black History Month, TikTok is celebrating Black excellence and honoring the Black community with the #MakeBlackHistory campaign. Throughout the month, TikTok will be highlighting individuals who are making a difference through TikTok LIVE programming that celebrates Black creators and artists. The campaign aims to respect and recognize the past, present, and future of the Black experience.

TikTok acknowledges that Black culture is the culture, and it starts on TikTok. Black creators are trailblazers in various fields, from starting trends to fostering connections, innovative creative expression, and inspiring others. The TikTok community owes its success to these creators.

To recognize and honor the contributions of Black creators, TikTok is announcing the inaugural Black TikTok Trailblazers list. These individuals have been recognized and nominated by the North America #BlackTikTok community for their leadership and pioneering efforts on and off TikTok. They are using their platforms to educate, entertain, and advocate for the Black community.

The Trailblazers include:

  • Alexis, a forager who shares her love of foraging and the outdoors
  • Shirley, who takes care of homeless people in Los Angeles and uses her platform to be their voice
  • Christian, a singer who wants to showcase the breadth and depth of Black musical talent
  • Jason, a father who spreads positivity through his family-focused content
  • Jax, an activist who uses her platform to spotlight important topics
  • Munera and Fatima, sisters who create comedy and prank videos to inspire other Black hijabi women
  • Kenyon, a creative mathematician who wants to increase Black representation in STEM
  • Kissy, a transgender woman who brings awareness to transgender issues
  • Quen, a real estate agent who aims to make homebuying attainable for the Black community
  • Taylor, who teaches Black history and uplifts current creatives
  • August, a content creator focused on food-related content
  • Kristine, who promotes body positivity and plus size fashion
  • Veondre, an activist for the transgender community

To further celebrate Black creators, TikTok is featuring the #MakeBlackHistory campaign on the Discover page, connecting the community to a schedule of TikTok LIVE programming featuring Black creators and artists. The platform is also collaborating with The Shade Room for a special TikTok LIVE series discussing Black history, beauty, fashion, and progression. Additionally, TikTok will introduce new information stickers to pay homage to Black history and culture.

Music is an integral part of Black culture, and TikTok will honor Black musicians by featuring special playlists, banners, and exclusively Black artists on the Sounds page. The platform will also donate $500K to non-profit organizations that fight for racial equality and justice and provide programs and resources to local Black communities.

To support Black businesses, TikTok is launching the Black Business Showcase, which will recognize and promote amazing Black-owned businesses throughout Black History Month. The TikTok community will be able to discover and shop from these businesses within the app.

TikTok is excited to celebrate Black creators and their experiences not only during Black History Month but also beyond. Follow the #MakeBlackHistory campaign to honor Blackness past, present, and future.
