TikTok: Empowering College Students through Creativity and Community
TikTok is a platform that supports creativity and originality, and it has been successful in showcasing videos from people at every stage of life. College students, in particular, have shown their ability to create authentic and relatable content on a limited budget. From sharing their dorm life experiences to getting ready for game day, college-related content has found a home on TikTok.
The college life can be seen through various trending hashtags on TikTok's explore page. Hashtags like #College101 and #DormLife highlight the daily struggles of college students living in close quarters with each other. These experiences are relatable to students across different universities. Hashtags like #CollegeFootball showcase big events that are worth celebrating, while tags as simple as #college are used to share thoughts and musings about life at any higher education institution.
A quick transformation can turn a dorm into a home, and college football teams like Bama check in for another day at the office. One important factor that contributes to a thriving TikTok community on college campuses is the presence of campus ambassadors. This semester, TikTok's campus ambassadors across 100 campuses are organizing events such as trivia and karaoke nights, scavenger hunts, and distributing trendy TikTok merchandise. These ambassadors go the extra mile to support the app and empower their fellow classmates to capture and showcase their creativity, knowledge, and memorable moments at their university. They also stay updated with TikTok trends and create content that resonates with their college community.
TikTok is also committed to supporting higher education by partnering with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to provide scholarships to students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). At least 20 scholarships, each worth up to $10,000, will be awarded to students who create TikTok videos showcasing their school spirit. To kick off the scholarship program, TikTok and Warner Records are organizing a concert series at HBCUs across the United States. Students have until November 13th to create their videos, and scholarship winners will be selected based on the creativity of their submissions. Regardless of who wins, the aim is to encourage students to show love for their universities, as demonstrated in a video from our Spelman College ambassador.
College life can be challenging and stressful, but TikTok provides students with an outlet to express their creativity and be their authentic selves. We hope that this platform can alleviate some of the pressure on students and make their college experience more positive. With university-specific videos and the support of our ambassadors, TikTok aims to bring students together and create events that brighten their day.
