Update on TikTok Creator Fund
[UPDATE - March 25, 2021]: Starting from March 25, 2021, creators must have at least 100K authentic video views in the last 30 days to be eligible for the Creator Fund. The Creator Fund is a program designed to support and reward creators on TikTok. We are continuously working on improving the experience for our creator community and exploring new ways to reward creators.
Last month, we launched the $1B TikTok Creator Fund to support and reward creators for their entertaining, inspiring, and uplifting content. Thousands of US creators, including @humphreytalks, @theparadise.bartender, and @johnsoncowoodworking, have already joined the Creator Fund. We have seen a significant increase in diverse and engaging content, ranging from educational videos to entertaining skits.
We are excited to announce that the Creator Fund wallet will soon be available. Creators will be able to transfer funds from the Creator Fund to their linked payment method. At the end of each month, creators can withdraw their earned funds and enjoy the fruits of their creativity and passion.
We want to clarify two common questions about the Creator Fund. Firstly, being part of the Creator Fund does not directly impact the TikTok recommendation system. The For You feed recommendations are personalized for each user and the recommendation system does not consider whether a creator is part of the Creator Fund. Therefore, being in the Creator Fund does not affect the performance of your videos, it simply means you will be rewarded for them.
We have analyzed the performance of creators before and after joining the Creator Fund and found that video viewership continued to fluctuate. However, a majority of users experienced an increase in video views after joining the program. When comparing the performance of creators in the fund and those outside of the fund, we found no significant difference in viewership.
To address the theory that leaving the Creator Fund improves video views, popular creator @hankgreen1 tested this by temporarily exiting the fund. He found that turning off the Creator Fund did not fix the drop in views. Changes in views can be attributed to various factors, and it is easy to associate them with the new program. Rejoining the Creator Fund was a smooth process for him.
Secondly, the funds allocated to creators are calculated based on several factors, including video views, engagement, authenticity of views, region of viewership, total participants in the program, and adherence to the Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. The unique aspect of the Creator Fund is that videos have the opportunity to reach global audiences, which also affects the funds allocated.
The Creator Fund is still in its early stages, and we appreciate your patience and ideas as we continue to improve the program. We are committed to supporting our creators and welcome feedback and suggestions. If you have any further questions or theories, please reach out to us.
