Customizing Your TikTok Experience: Safety, Privacy, and Well-Being

We prioritize the online experience of our users, ensuring they can create and have fun while feeling safe and comfortable. In our Community Well-Being series, we aim to educate users on how to customize their TikTok experience using the available safety, privacy, and well-being tools.

Building a following on TikTok allows you to connect with viewers, fans, and friends who appreciate your creative videos and content. While gaining followers can be exciting, you have control over who can follow or interact with you on TikTok. There are various tools and settings to help you curate your following and feel comfortable.

One important decision is whether to have a private or public account. By default, your account is public, allowing any TikTok user to view your videos and engage with your content. However, you can easily change this in your Privacy Settings and make your account private. With a private account, you can approve or deny follower requests, ensuring only approved followers can see your content.

Additionally, you have the option to make specific videos private, visible only to you. This setting can be selected when uploading the video or by later making an uploaded video private.

If you no longer want a user to follow your account, you can remove them from your followers. This can be done from the "Followers" page or their profile. Once removed, your videos will no longer appear in their "Following" feed. If you have a public account, they can still re-follow you, while a private account requires them to send another follow request.

In cases where a user violates community guidelines and bullies or harasses you, you have the option to block them. Blocking a user prevents them from contacting you, viewing your content, or interacting with it.

We encourage all users to follow the community guidelines and treat others with respect. By utilizing the available tools and settings, you can create a positive and enjoyable TikTok experience.
