Safer Internet Day

Safer Internet Day

"Safer Internet Day" is an initiative aimed at creating a safer and better internet environment for everyone. It promotes responsible, respectful, critical, and creative use of technology.

TikTok, a popular social media platform, has actively participated in this initiative by organizing a series of events throughout the US. One of the highlights was the collaboration with 30 local PTAs (Parent-Teacher Associations) to host family workshops on online safety. These workshops focused on digital literacy and citizenship, helping parents understand the tools and controls offered by TikTok and fostering ongoing conversations about digital well-being and responsible technology use. Thousands of local families from various states participated in these workshops.

On February 11, TikTok sponsored Connect Safely's Safer Internet Day in Mountain View, CA. The event included a high school program at the Computer History Museum, where hundreds of teenagers had the opportunity to learn from technology leaders. The day program was followed by an evening Family Night at TikTok's office, in collaboration with MyDigitalTat2.

TikTok has also partnered with several top creators to produce fun in-app videos that encourage users to be mindful of their screen time, take breaks, and engage in real-life activities like exploring the city or reading a book. Additionally, TikTok has collaborated with various organizations worldwide to support online safety initiatives. For example, in France, TikTok partnered with UNICEF to create a parental guide. In India, they hosted a panel discussion called "Together for a Better Internet" in partnership with FICCI and launched an in-app quiz in collaboration with the Data Security Council of India. In Indonesia, TikTok worked with the anti-bullying organization Sudah Dong and launched the "Sama-sama Aman, Sama-sama nyaman" challenge, which promotes equal safety and comfort online.

TikTok is committed to continuously improving its tools and controls to help users manage their experience. They encourage everyone to exercise caution in their online and offline behavior. It is recommended to review TikTok's Community Guidelines to understand their code of conduct. For those who couldn't attend the internet safety sessions, TikTok provides a Safety Centre with a suite of tools and controls, educational resources, and tutorials, including the "You're in Control" Safety Videos.
