I Tested Tiktok Shop's QUESTIONABLE Art Supplies (they lied)
Introduction
After seeing the same advertisements for various art supplies on TikTok repeatedly, I decided to dive in and purchase a few items to see if they actually live up to the hype. My order arrived after a month of anticipation, and now it’s time to explore whether these products are truly worth the investment. Let’s take a closer look at what I found.
1. Grabby 100 Count Watercolor Set
The first product I tried was the Grabby 100 Count Watercolor Set, priced at $ 40. This set is frequently featured on my TikTok For You Page, and seeing all these colors in one place was somewhat overwhelming!
The palette boasts a vibrant array of colors, including skin tones, metallics, and neons. After doing some swatches, I was impressed by the pigment and how easily the colors broke down on the paper. They exhibited no streaks and a remarkable vibrancy, particularly the neon orange, which was astonishingly bright (I even had to adjust the camera to show the true color!). For just $ 40, this set lives up to the hype—10 out of 10!
2. Shuttle Art Rainbow Colored Pencils
Next up were Shuttle Art Rainbow Colored Pencils, which I purchased for $ 10. While the packaging looked somewhat dated, the actual product was surprisingly thick and sturdy. However, it contains predominantly duplicates, with only five truly unique colors.
Using these pencils produced a unique psychedelic effect in my sketches; however, it was a bit challenging to control the colors. Despite that, I believe these would be great for beginners in color theory or artists looking to experiment. I rate these a 6 out of 10.
3. Reusable Sticker Book
Technically not an art supply, I found a Reusable Sticker Book for $ 10 that I couldn't resist showcasing. This nifty product addresses sticker anxiety by allowing you to reposition your stickers without damage.
I tested it using stickers I designed from my shop (shopaydiesel.com). After applying the stickers, removing them proved seamless, which made me wish I had discovered this sooner. I can confidently say, this product earns a 10, no, a 100 out of 10!
4. Grabby Extra Fine Acrylic Paint Markers
Continuing with the Grabby brand, I also purchased Extra Fine Acrylic Paint Markers for $ 30. The fine nib made them ideal for intricate details, and I was pleased to find they performed well without being splotchy like cheaper alternatives.
These markers are opaque and work wonderfully for various projects, leading me to believe grabby may become a favorite among artists. I give them a solid 10 out of 10!
5. Transparent Sticky Notes
Another interesting find was Transparent Sticky Notes, which I got for just $ 2. These notes allow you to transfer images by tracing, which is particularly useful for students and artists alike.
I found that although they weren’t completely clear, they still did the job adequately. Just be wary of mistakes, as erasing can ruin them. Overall, I would rate these a decent 8 out of 10.
6. Alcohol-Based Markers
Lastly, I received a pack of Alcohol-Based Markers for $ 50. Unlike expected, they seemed smaller than advertised and didn’t perform quite as well as they appeared in ads. While they were okay for basic coloring, they struggled with blending—an essential feature of good alcohol markers.
In comparison to renowned brands like Ohuhu, these markers were streaky and slightly misleading in their presentation. These earn a lower rating of 5 out of 10.
Final Thoughts
Overall, I found that most of the TikTok art supplies surpassed my expectations, especially the paint markers and watercolors. In contrast, the alcohol markers disappointed me, suggesting they might not be worth your investment. If you're curious about any of these products, check out the links in the description!
