TikTok Celebrates Black History Month with Music, Conversations, and Original Songs

TikTok is honoring Black History Month by highlighting the contributions of Black artists to American music. They have created themed playlists, hosted live conversations and performances with Black artists, and collaborated with @SongPsych to explore the history of Black music. Original songs by Leon Bridges and KAYTRANADA are also being premiered.

During Black History Month, TikTok is amplifying Black voices by exclusively inviting Black artists to host interactive livestreams. R&B icons Ashanti and Monica have already participated in live conversations, discussing their careers and the history of R&B music. Other rising artists like Erica Banks, Coi Leray, Amorphous, and Ayzha Nyree have also been featured.

TikTok has partnered with @SongPsych, a media brand that provides detailed explanations of music theory and the music industry, to delve deeper into Black music. @SongPsych conducts interviews with renowned artists and explores genres, sub-genres of hip-hop, and the music theory behind Black musical techniques.

To honor the history of Black music, TikTok has curated themed playlists that highlight different genres, eras, and qualities of Black music. These playlists range from past classics to present hits and offer a glimpse into the future of Black music.

The month-long celebration concludes with a special event, TikTok LIVE Make Black History Celebration, which celebrates the past, present, and future of West Coast Hip Hop.

TikTok is committed to supporting the Black community beyond Black History Month. They are donating to organizations like the Alvin Ailey Foundation and developing the "TikTok for Black Creatives" incubator program to nurture and develop talented Black creators and music artists. TikTok aims to continue honoring and supporting Black musicians on and off the platform.

Join TikTok in celebrating Black musicians' contributions to the platform and the culture at large with the hashtag #MakeBlackHistory.
