TikTok Partners with Conservation International to Launch #SaveOurOceans Challenge
TikTok, the leading platform for short-form mobile videos, has partnered with Conservation International to launch the #SaveOurOceans challenge. This global campaign aims to raise awareness about the critical role of oceans and marine ecosystems and encourage people to take action to protect them.
From August 26 to September 9, TikTok users can participate in the challenge by creating short videos that showcase their support for ocean conservation. By using a special ocean effect, users can virtually "clean plastic" out of the ocean. For every video uploaded with the hashtag #SaveOurOceans, TikTok will donate 100,000. This contribution will help save 3,000 square kilometers of ocean.
The challenge is open to users from various countries and regions, including the US, the UK, France, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, India, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Turkey, MENA, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile.
The urgency of this campaign is highlighted by the global plastic pollution crisis. According to the UN, plastic ingestion leads to the death of 1 million marine birds and 100,000 marine animals annually. If current trends continue, the weight of ocean plastics will surpass the combined weight of all fish in the seas by 2050.
TikTok's partnership with Conservation International aims to leverage the platform's creative capabilities to educate and inspire users to take action. By joining forces, they hope to address one of the world's most pressing environmental challenges and encourage a global call to action for the protection of our oceans.
To participate in the #SaveOurOceans challenge, users can download or open the TikTok app and create a video showcasing how they contribute to ocean conservation. Together, we can protect our oceans for a better future.
