TikTok Community Well-Being: Combating Harassment and Bullying

We prioritize the online experience of our users, ensuring they can create and have fun while feeling safe and comfortable. As part of our Community Well-Being series, we aim to educate users on how to customize their TikTok experience using the available safety, privacy, and well-being tools.

TikTok thrives on positivity and creativity from its users who create content, comment, and interact with the community. Encouragement and good vibes contribute to an enjoyable experience for everyone. However, there are instances where users engage in negative behavior that violates our community guidelines and falls under the category of bullying. As an active TikTok member, there are several actions you can take to combat harassment if you encounter it on the app. We provide tools such as reporting and blocking to empower you to take control of the situation.

If you feel someone is harassing you or behaving inappropriately, please report them so our moderation team can review and take appropriate action. To report a troubling account, go to the profile of the problematic account, tap on the three dots in the top-right corner, choose "Report," and follow the on-screen instructions. To report an inappropriate video, tap on the sharing arrow on the video page (just above the music icon), choose "Report," and follow the instructions to best identify why you are flagging the content.

We encourage users to follow the community guidelines and treat their fellow TikTok users with respect. If someone violates these rules by bullying or harassing you, you can block them in addition to reporting them. Blocking a user prevents them from contacting you, viewing your content, or interacting with it. To block a user, go to their profile, tap the three dots in the top right corner, tap "Block," and confirm.

In addition to the tools provided by TikTok, there are other resources that may be helpful. ConnectSafely is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating users about safety, privacy, and security in connected technology. StopBullying.gov provides information on identifying bullying and standing up to it safely. WiredSafety is a nonprofit that offers effective tools to help young people make wise choices in a world of media and technology. OnguardOnline.gov, a program of the Federal Trade Commission, provides practical tips on protecting against internet fraud.

TikTok is committed to keeping our users safe from targeted harassment or negativity, and we encourage every user to contribute to maintaining a positive environment for self-expression. For more information on TikTok's tools, please refer to our Safety Center.
