The TikTok Creativity Fund (Not Creator Fund) EXPLAINED
Introduction
The TikTok Creativity Fund is here! It’s TikTok's way of supporting creators even more than the Creator Fund ever did. If you're curious about how it works, you're in luck because I got the invite to join it and have read the FAQs. Here’s everything you need to know.
Who is Eligible to Join the Creativity Fund?
To join the Creativity Fund, you need to have at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views over the past 30 days. This is the same criteria as the Creator Fund. TikTok is keeping a high-quality marker similar to YouTube's 1,000 subscriber threshold or 400 watch hours to start earning money on content. You must be consistently making content before you join, or just lucky enough to have a viral video. Additionally, the program is invite-only and currently in beta, so not everyone can join right away.
How Are Videos Eligible for Rewards?
Once you’re in the Creativity Fund, your videos need to meet certain criteria to earn revenue. The video must:
- Hit 1,000 quality views (according to TikTok’s measurements)
- Be longer than a minute
TikTok is emphasizing long-form content with the Creativity Fund, aiming to shift TikTok from being merely a short-form platform.
How is Revenue Calculated?
TikTok's method for calculating revenue is similar to other digital marketing platforms, using a “cost per thousand” (CPM) approach. They call it “revenue per thousand views.” For example, on YouTube, payouts range from $ 10 to $ 30 per thousand views, depending on the content and how lucrative it is for advertisers. TikTok may incorporate ads before, after, or during these videos.
Key Differences from the Creator Fund
Despite both requiring 10,000 followers and 100,000 watch hours, you can’t participate in both funds simultaneously:
- Creator Fund: For short, quick content with modest payouts.
- Creativity Fund: For minute-long, higher-quality content with potentially higher payouts.
You have to choose which type of content you want to prioritize. This means introspective creators need to decide if they prefer making quick videos or investing time in longer content.
The Impact of the Creativity Fund
This shift is significant for side hustlers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and anyone in the social media space. TikTok is solidifying its place as a platform supportive of content creators, indicating a long-term commitment to the community.
