TikTok Collaborates with GLAAD to Support LGBTQ Youth
National Coming Out Day is a significant occasion for LGBTQ individuals to share stories of acceptance and love. In honor of this day, we are proud to collaborate with GLAAD to support LGBTQ youth by inviting our users to share their #ThisIsMe stories. From October 9-16, TikTok users can demonstrate their support for acceptance by creating, engaging with, and sharing #ThisIsMe videos. TikTok values original and creative content, and we are thrilled to provide a platform for users to show their support for the LGBTQ community. Additionally, for every video created, TikTok will donate 50,000. By creating high-quality content and supporting a worthy cause, users can make a double impact.
GLAAD has been at the forefront of promoting cultural change, working towards acceptance for the LGBTQ community and striving for a world where everyone can live authentically. For almost 35 years, GLAAD has been actively involved in advancing LGBTQ stories and representation in entertainment, news, and digital media. TikTok is honored to partner with organizations that inspire and encourage the younger generation to make a positive impact on the world and those around them.
"National Coming Out Day is an important moment for LGBTQ people to share authentic stories of self-acceptance, identity, and love," says Rich Ferraro, GLAAD's Chief Communications Officer. "Participants in the TikTok #ThisIsMe campaign will help spread these stories and messages in a unique way, reminding LGBTQ youth that there is a supportive community that accepts them. In today's world, amplifying these messages is more crucial than ever."
TikTok has also partnered with other organizations such as Girls Who Code for the #MarchforSisterhood campaign, Conservation International for the global #SaveOurOceans challenge to address marine plastic pollution, and the ASPCA for the #PetBFF campaign to prevent animal cruelty.
