TikTok CEO: No evidence Chinese government has access to data

Introduction

During a congressional hearing, the focus was on the security and sovereignty of user data collected by TikTok. The central question revolved around the possibility of the Chinese government accessing user data.

Congresswoman: "How can you promise that data will move into the United States and be protected here?"

TikTok CEO: "I have seen no evidence that the Chinese government has access to that data. They have never asked us, and we have not provided any. Well, you know, I find that actually preposterous."

The CEO further emphasized their commitment to data privacy and security. He assured that steps are being taken to transfer all user data to the United States. This data will be stored on American soil, managed by an American company, and overseen by American personnel.

TikTok CEO: "In order to assure everybody here and all our users, our commitment is to move the data into the United States to be stored on American soil by an American company overseen by American personnel. So the risk will be similar to any government going to an American company asking for data."
