TikTok's #CreateForACause Charity Program

In December, our community participated in the first-ever charity program on TikTok called #CreateForACause. Within just five days, U.S. users created over 2.5 million videos, resulting in TikTok donating over $2 million to various nonprofits, including Oceana. Oceana is an organization dedicated to protecting the world's oceans and its wildlife. As a way to showcase the impact of the community's charitable donations, Oceana invited eight lucky TikTok Creators on an ocean excursion to Catalina Island.

During the excursion, the group embarked on a boat to explore Bird Rock, located just off Catalina Island. This area is home to a sea lion rookery, as well as seagulls and cormorants. The creators had the incredible opportunity to interact with these creatures in their natural habitat and also observed other wildlife during the boat ride, such as a heron, a juvenile bald eagle hunting for fish, and several pods of dolphins. This experience allowed the TikTok creators to swim, explore, and gain exposure to marine wildlife, providing them with a firsthand understanding of how the donations they helped raise are being utilized to protect our oceans.

We are proud to partner with Oceana and support their important work, which includes reducing bycatch of marine wildlife, defending laws that protect marine mammals, and advocating for the preservation of crucial marine habitats. By capturing these moments, our community can truly appreciate the significance of Oceana's efforts.

This ocean excursion provided TikTok users with a unique opportunity to closely observe the affected wildlife and explore their natural habitats. They documented this once-in-a-lifetime experience, showcasing their passion for doing good and their commitment to making a positive impact. We are excited to continue working closely with our creators and charity partners to bring more initiatives like these to life.
