TikTok Joins Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online

TikTok has recently announced its partnership with the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, a collaboration established by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), TRAFFIC, and IFAW. The coalition brings together e-commerce, search, and social platforms from around the world to combat wildlife trafficking.

To prevent wildlife trafficking on TikTok, the platform has implemented clear guidelines that prohibit any content depicting or promoting the poaching or illegal trade of wildlife. Since November, TikTok has successfully removed 85.3% of such content before it even receives a single view. Additionally, the platform's advertising policies strictly prohibit the promotion of products derived from protected animals or the sale of animals themselves.

Recognizing the constant change in tactics by wildlife traffickers, TikTok believes that partnerships like the one with the Coalition are essential. By working together, they can share best practices, monitor emerging developments, and receive valuable feedback to continuously improve their efforts.

Giavanna Grein, Senior Program Officer at TRAFFIC, WWF, highlights the importance of online platforms like TikTok in combating wildlife trafficking. The participating companies in the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online have already blocked or removed 4 million prohibited wildlife listings. TikTok is excited to collaborate with the Coalition and mobilize its millions of users to creatively prevent this illegal trade on the platform.

Through their partnership with the Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, TikTok aims to celebrate and protect some of the world's most endangered animals. They hope that their collective efforts will contribute to maintaining TikTok as a platform filled with joy and creativity.
