TikTok Joins WePROTECT Global Alliance to End Online Child Sexual Exploitation

TikTok is committed to providing a safe and joyful platform for its community. In line with this commitment, TikTok has joined the WePROTECT Global Alliance, the largest and most diverse multi-sector alliance dedicated to ending online child sexual exploitation.

Membership in the WePROTECT Global Alliance reflects TikTok's zero tolerance policy towards child sexual exploitation and acknowledges that this is a universal challenge that requires collective action. Through collaboration with industry partners, non-profits, academics, and governments, TikTok aims to identify, implement, and share innovative solutions to better protect children online.

TikTok recognizes that any instance of child sexual exploitation is unacceptable. By joining the WePROTECT Global Alliance, TikTok aims to collaborate, learn, and share best practices with peers in order to make significant progress towards the common goal of ending online child sexual abuse.

Advancements in technology have unfortunately made it easier for individuals seeking to exploit children to make contact with potential victims. Therefore, industry collaboration is crucial in addressing this issue. TikTok's commitment to prioritizing the safety of its youngest users is evident in its recent decision to restrict under-16s' access to its Direct Messaging feature.

Iain Drennan, Executive Director of the WeProtect Global Alliance, acknowledges TikTok's genuine commitment to child safety and looks forward to working with TikTok and other industry partners to end the sexual exploitation of children online.
