While scrolling through TikTok earlier today—a guilty pleasure where I even get my news—I came across a feature I didn’t know existed: the TikTok Shop. You can buy all sorts of stuff, including fishing gear.

The Challenge

We've done Amazon challenges and Teemu app challenges, but never a TikTok Shop fishing challenge. That changes today. We're scouring the TikTok Shop for the coolest fishing items we can find, and then we're going to put them to the test on a lake. Let's dive in!

TikTok Shop Discovery

I started by quickly scanning through some TikTok fishing videos to get into the groove. The shop feature on TikTok blew me away with its variety. From fishing reels and colorful fishing lines to line spoolers and fishing backpacks, the selection was enormous.

Unboxing and Initial Impressions

Once everything arrived, I laid it all out and began unboxing. Let's just say, I was pretty impressed with the first looks.

With all the gear ready, we headed to a hidden pond for the real test.

I started with the baitcasting combo because of its high expectations but it became evident that the line was lopsided due to the line spooler not being the best. Yet, this combo landed our first top-water frog catch of the day.

My second combo, the spinning rod and reel, faced various challenges like a dull hook, but it surprisingly managed to hook a fish on the first cast with a lunker log.

Inflatable Boat Test

The inflatable boat was a fun yet slightly uncomfortable ride with its low seating. But it held up, even if just barely.

Cast Net

The cast net proved more troublesome, tangling easily and not producing the expected results. Clearly, TikTok has some work to do here.

Successful Fishing Day

Despite some hiccups, we landed multiple fish using almost all the gear bought from the TikTok Shop. From experimenting with different lures to the sheer joy of paddling around in the inflatable, the challenge turned out to be a fun and enlightening experience.

Conclusion

Would I recommend TikTok Shop for fishing gear? Surprisingly, yes. With some great and some not-so-great products, it’s certainly a mixed bag but worth exploring.
