Managing Comments on TikTok: A Guide to Customizing Your Experience

We prioritize the online experience of our users, ensuring they can create and have fun while feeling safe and comfortable. As part of our Community Well-Being series, we aim to educate users on how to customize their TikTok experience using the available safety, privacy, and well-being tools.

When creating a TikTok profile, users have the option to make it public or private. Private profiles limit video visibility to chosen followers, while public accounts allow sharing with the world. However, what about the comments left on your content? To empower users and give them control over their TikTok experience, we have introduced new features that allow users to manage the comments on their videos.

We take various measures, such as filters and moderators, to minimize misuse on TikTok. Additionally, we provide tools and settings that enable users to take control of their own feed. For instance, we understand that certain words may be perceived as harmless by some but harmful by others. To address this, we have created a "Filter Comments" tool that allows users to create a custom list of keywords that will be automatically blocked from appearing in the comments on their videos.

To set manual keyword filters, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Privacy and Settings
  2. Tap "Privacy and Safety"
  3. Tap "Filter Comments"
  4. Enable the toggle and tap "Add Keywords"
  5. Choose your keywords and tap "done"

Once set, any comments containing keywords from your list will be removed from your videos, including existing and future comments. This ensures a safer and more comfortable environment for users.

Furthermore, TikTok provides the option to control who can comment on your videos. You can allow anyone to comment, restrict it to friends, or disable comments entirely.

To enable this feature:

  1. Go to Privacy and Safety settings from your profile
  2. Tap "Who Can Comment on My Videos"
  3. Choose between Everyone, Friends, or Off

If any comments violate our community guidelines, you can report them. Simply tap on the comment and follow the prompted steps.

In conclusion, TikTok is committed to providing users with tools that give them control over their TikTok experience. With comment filters and the ability to manage comment restrictions, users have the power to shape the contributions on their created videos. Additionally, users can report any comments that violate our community guidelines, ensuring a positive and safe community environment.
